Position Title: Asset Leader

Our Asset Leader supports Mativ’s Sustainable and Adhesive Solutions (SAS) team for Neenah Northeast., a Mativ company (“Mativ”).  This individual will support and oversee multiple assets by ensuring safe, compliant operations of the Paper Machine, Coater, PM Winder, Inspection Winder and Stock Preparation Assets, work processes and system implementations This role is responsible for providing the necessary technical support to optimize the operation by working with crews and mill leadership to improve efficiency; manage and reduce costs.  This individual will work closely with maintenance to ensure asset reliability and effective maintenance expense spending. 
responsibilities:
Support a culture of continuous improvement in Safety
  • Lead and instill a strong Safety and Environmental compliance culture.
  • Lead to ensure housekeeping is at tour-ready condition at all times.  Ensure housekeeping is at standard prior to machine startups.
  • Facilitate a culture of safety and environmental excellence through risk identification (HIRA) and Operator Personal Ownership / Accountability.
  • Ensure compliance with the Non-Routine Work Process on Assets.  Report any gaps through Velocity, PMC system.
  • Accountable and responsible for safety successes and failures on all Assets.
  • Personally make safety one-on-one contacts monthly that support employee value and care.
  • Manage the continual improvement in value and performance of Leading Safety Metrics through coaching and support.
  • Ensures employees are compliant with asset-specific LOTO procedures.  
  • Participates in formal Design Safety Reviews (DSRs) with support of Engineering and Maintenance prior to any major changes/modifications or capital installations are put into service on the Asset. 
  • All Asset incident reports are reviewed daily and scored for severity/frequency/potential.  
  • Fact finding is required within 24 hours and a full, documented investigation within 72 hours for the following events:
    • Any incidents scoring greater than 4 for severity/frequency/potential.
    • All recordable incidents.
    • Any major property damage over $1,000.
    • Any incident at request of Mill Manager.
  • Items on Asset Action Register are targeted for completed on time (excluding equipment or parts related delays) which should not exceed 30 days delinquent.
  • Champion the timely completion of safety work orders on the Asset within 90 days of entry through coordination with Maintenance on operating schedules.
 
Ensure compliance with quality standards 
 
  • Accountable and responsible for quality policy and procedural successes and failures on the assets 
  • Ensure all crews perform all quality inspection checks, e.g., winder inspections, and report on compliance gaps through the Electronic Incident Reporting system.
  • Ensure corrective actions are developed for any quality inspection compliance gaps and entered into the Action Register.
  • Ensure fact finding investigation for all workmanship customer complaints with follow-ups entered into Action Register.
  • Ensure a Quality CAR (corrective action request) for any complaint category that exceeds $10,000 in a rolling 12-months.
Optimize Asset Contribution to the Business
 
  • Implement and utilize Department’s Management Systems to ensure operating risks are proactively assessed and mitigated to prevent unplanned events (i.e. Operator/mechanical rounds, standardized work, daily planning/mitigation activities). 
    • Weekly Report Communications are completed on-time and are value-added so that performance metrics/results can be communicated and understood across the organization. 
    • Develop specific annual Asset Improvement Strategies to improve yield, uptime, and labor efficiency, targeting 6-month “project” execution cycles for results.
    • Leverage data acquisition system to lead asset performance improvement
    • Utilize asset-based teams to drive engagement and individual success.
    • Utilize Asset Strategy Improvement Process to organize and execute continuous improvement, which includes a review with Mill Manager 1X/month (check and adjust if needed).
  • Use 5s principles to create Ownership implementation and execution in your area. 
    • Support employee in getting his/her “Space” back to good base-condition.
    • Support employee by involving him/her in all operational and maintenance decisions.
    • Share and involve employee in all technical, process, and equipment changes/upgrades. 
  • Utilize Asset Strategy Improvement Process to organize and execute continuous improvement, which includes
  • Data acquisition systems are utilized to define all 3 crew’s and employees’ controllable metrics (i.e. Loss per job, speed compliance). 
  • Loss events follow documented protocol for fact finding and full, documented investigation within 72 hours: 
  • Any major process loss over $10,000.
  • Equipment breakdown (over $10,000 or greater than 2 hours)
 
Support capital project execution to sustain Assets, support strategic initiatives and reduce costs while meeting financial expectations
  • Assist in developing, prioritizing, and managing the execution of Asset cost savings initiatives.
  • Achieve Asset targeted cost savings results through organics and capital project execution.

Enhance organizational development

  • Create an environment where excellence is the standard.
  • Accountable for hourly employee development plans and strategies in the Asset areas.
  • Set clear expectations and hold employees accountable to them.
  • Manage with a high level of balanced accountability for yourself and hourly workforce.
  • Drive hourly employee development and engagement in key initiatives around safety and cost improvement.
  • Participate in cross functional teams to share best practices and improve performance of all assets.
  • Payroll, vacations and hourly reviews
  • Office Housekeeping:  ensure your office meets the same organization and housekeeping standards we expect of our employees’’ operating areas.   We must set and model the example. 
qualifications:
  • A BA degree desired in engineering, management, paper science or related technical field.
  • Candidate must have papermaking fundamentals
  • Prior related experience in a process-oriented manufacturing environment will be considered.
  • A track record of proven performance/consistently meeting objectives, and leading or supporting safety programs in a manufacturing environment is a must.
  • Supervisory experience preferred.
  • Must have the ability to evaluate equipment and processes in terms of chemistry, control strategies, mechanical integrity, energy transfer, thermodynamics, mass transfer, and fluid dynamics.
  • Understanding of activities and procedures required for efficient and quality work completion.
  • Strong computer skills including, but not limited to a working knowledge of Microsoft Excel, Word. Experience with Oracle is helpful.
  • Strong leadership and communication skills.
  • Ability to multi-task effectively in a fast-paced production setting.
Preferred
  • Experience with customer interactions; ideally collaborating with others to help define needs, identify solutions and resolve problems.

The annual salary range for this position is anywhere from $65,000 to $90,000
