Shift Maintenance – E&I Journeyman

Starting Pay: $44.76/hour (increases to $45.43 effective 8/1/25). Per CBA language, work performed on Sundays and contractual holidays is paid at double time.

Schedule: Primary schedule will be 6 P.M. to 6 A.M. on a two week rotation. Week 1 is working Tu, W, Th. Week 2 is M, F, Sa, Su. This rotation will include weekends, holidays, and overtime.

Vacation: Minimum of 2 weeks after one year of service, with potential for additional credit offered for time spent in the trade.

The Shift Maintenance - E&I Journeyman will be paired with a Journeyman Mechanic to support mill assets during the hours of 6:00 P.M. –  6:00 A.M. on a rotating shift. Assets include paper machines, folios, embossers, roll wrap and cutsize, as well as shared systems that are used to support multiple assets. The ideal candidate will have a positive attitude and initiative.

 

Responsibilities:

 

  • Ensure that manufacturing and converting processes are maintained in a preventative fashion to ensure optimum reliability and up time.
  • Conduct preventative and corrective maintenance of equipment and troubleshoot problems while applying theory and related knowledge to install, rebuild, or repair equipment as needed.
  • Assist with all service calls while on duty and take call ins as necessary to ensure production operation.
  • Ensure all required tools, parts and supplies are available for each job performed, complete required service records and be responsible for recommending and/or initiating equipment modifications and/or replacement of components.

Responsible for understanding, maintaining and troubleshooting:

  • General electrical systems and controls (motor starters, lighting circuits, power distribution equipment, industrial controls)
  • Programmable Logic Controllers (Rockwell Control Logix)
  • Variable speed AC & DC drives and motors
  • Process instrumentation and control (transmitters, control valves, control loops and DCS)
  • Process variable monitoring and control (temperature, pressure, flow, PH, etc.)
  • Analytical process troubleshooting including electrical print reading and using troubleshooting manuals

Essential Job Functions include:

  • Ability to wear required personal protective equipment
  • Ability to bend, kneel, squat and stoop
  • Ability to read and understand instructions, procedures, and equipment training manuals
  • Ability to accurately read and record data
  • Ability to climb stairs and work from steps, ladders, scaffolds, mobile lifts and elevator platforms
  • Ability to operate/use manual and powered material handling equipment such as a pickup truck, hand dolly, chain fall, chain hoist, electric hoist, tractor, truck and heavy equipment as needed
  • Ability to work in extreme temperatures when necessary
  • Ability to work in confined spaces when necessary

 

Qualifications:

Required

  • Journeyman card and/or state license
  • Possess technical/problem solving skills
  • Contribute in a team environment to meet our business objectives
  • Ability to pass pre-employment physical capabilities test, pre-employment drug/alcohol screening and a background check.

Preferred

  • Four years of experience
  • Advanced electrical/ instrumentation education and experience in an industrial environment.

 

POSITION DEMANDS:

 

This position operates in a manufacturing environment with varying temperatures, dust, odors, and potential exposure to mechanical, electrical, and chemical hazards.

Employees must wear required PPE (e.g., safety shoes, glasses, hearing protection, gloves, bump caps).

Physical demands include:

  • Lifting up to 50 lbs, pushing up to 108 lbs, pulling up to 60 lbs.
  • Working extended shifts (up to 16 hours)
  • Performing repetitive tasks and working in tight spaces
  • Good vision and focus required
  • PIV certification required
