JOB DESCRIPTION:
Mativ has an exciting opportunity for a junior professional to work with our global Product Stewardship team, responsible for product safety, regulatory compliance, and customer facing product stewardship and business product development inquiries. The SAS business unit is comprised of four businesses – Scapa Industrial, Itasa, Indafor, and Fine Paper and Packaging – with locations in North America and Europe.
The Junior Product Steward will work with the Product Stewardship team to approve all raw materials requested for use in Industrials products. This includes acquisition, database management, and reporting of raw material chemical safety information, while working with materials supplier technical data, and other product safety, stewardship, and regulatory chemical compliance information. In this role, the Junior Product Steward will work closely with R&D, Customers, Sales & Marketing, Suppliers, and Product Steward peers within Mativ.
The incumbent is expected to apply scientific knowledge, demonstrate initiative, be self-motivated, and able to work independently in the role. The incumbent is expected to maintain and enhance their knowledge of raw materials and products specific to the Mativ Industrials businesses, Mativ Product Safety and Regulatory systems and processes, and technical and professional skills through continuing education.
responsibilities:
- Contribute to and continuously improve strategy in product safety, regulatory, and product stewardship within Mativ consumer, outsourcing, and commercialization processes to meet legal, marketplace, and customer requirements for product-specific use.
- Product stewardship responsibilities include reviewing individual raw material, manufacturing process, and finished product master design parameters. Works closely with Mativ Industrials R&D in the product development process and with Product Safety Administrators for finished product and raw material reviews.
- Develop and manage product regulatory due diligence information database to allow for rapid retrieval of information, and where applicable, provide the information as appropriate to internal and external customers.
- Evaluate, appropriately process, and respond to incoming internal requests for technical, chemical compliance, product safety support assistance or external customer inquiries. Identify, and escalate as appropriate, potential problems or issues, technical or chemical compliance issues, or material changes that may impact Mativ Industrials products and global business.
- Provides product safety support for the technical evaluation and the safety hazard assessment of ingredients and raw materials. Collaboratively identifies and solves technical, chemical-of-concern, and/or regulatory toxicology compliance problems that may impact Mativ Industrials products, brand or reputation globally.
- Assist in internal/external SDS generation and revision process for Mativ finished and in-process products.
- Engage Mativ Industrials suppliers and/or test laboratories in order to obtain full material disclosures certifications, compliance to Mativ standards, other required information and/or additional test data for safety evaluation, regulatory registration, or notification programs.
qualifications:
- A Bachelor’s Degree in Chemistry, Biology, Toxicology, Pharmacology, Industrial Hygiene, or a related scientific or technical field of study with 2+ years of relevant experience.
- Experience working with product regulatory and stewardship issues in the industrial manufacturing sector.
- Knowledge of global product regulatory requirements (e.g., REACH, RoHS, TSCA, Prop 65, GHS, etc.). Experience responding to Restricted Substance Standards (RSSs) and Restricted Substance Lists (RSLs) preferred.
- Knowledge of chemical safety regulations globally and the Global Harmonized System of Classification and Labeling of Chemicals (GHS) standards as pertains to Mativ.
- Experience using ERP systems such as SAP, Oracle, LN, and/or Syscom.
- Experience working with product BOMs (bills of materials), including component calculations.
- Must be highly effective at promptly and accurately assessing customer requests on product safety and responding effectively to product compliance requests against hard deadlines.
- Must have experience in data collection and management for effective response to product stewardship inquiries from internal and external customers, using appropriate digital platforms and with a high level of accuracy and attention to detail.
- Strong organizational skills and experience in organizing chemical safety and regulatory data, research/product safety testing report information, and the entering of these data into electronic databases and presentations.
- Demonstrated ability to effectively communicate and independently manage multiple tasks in a cross-functional corporate setting and the ability to effectively communicate in written or oral presentation formats.
