Maintenance-Journeyman Electrician

The Industrial Electrician in Pittsfield, MA is responsible for performing all duties defined by the Maintenance Supervisor.  This includes but is not limited to installation, maintenance, and repair of all assigned electrical equipment, components, and systems to include raw materials processing, papermaking, and process-related equipment, paper converting equipment, mechanical power transmission components and systems, electric motors, and material handling equipment.  These responsibilities include: preventative maintenance, trouble calls, and assisting with project work in all areas of manufacturing.

Schedule:  Monday - Friday, 6 am - 2 pm, with shared on-call responsibilities and scheduling flexibility

Responsibilities

  • Conduct self and job tasks in a safe manner following proper work procedures
  • Respond to all duties assigned by supervision
  • Provide after-hours on-call availability for operational emergencies
  • Assist in the electrical installation of equipment from blueprints
  • Work in cooperation with various trades to complete assigned tasks
  • Positively interact with co-workers, supervisors, engineers, contracted resources, and customers, and contribute to team efforts
  • Maintain inventory and good repair of all assigned shop tools and equipment, and consistently maintain good housekeeping in work area(s)
  • Manage Electrical Work Order Backlog.  In Asset Essentials, create and close work orders and manage the PM schedule.
  • Perform preventative maintenance on all electrical components without guidance
  • Troubleshoot problems and perform repairs on electrical equipment as needed

  • Advanced electrical troubleshooting from low voltage to 480Vac, switch gear, including housekeeping, cooling, and monitoring
  • VFD Drive and motor installation, configuration, and back-ups
  • Mechanical aptitude
  • Ability to measure, cut, and bend wire and conduit, using a ruler and hand tools.
  • Ability to mentor junior technicians without formal supervisory responsibilities. 

Qualifications

Required proficiency in the following:

  • Ability to make in-field repairs to miscellaneous electrical systems
  • Knowledge of DCS systems
  • Knowledge of Allen-Bradley PLC
  • Ability to read blueprint drawings, schematics, and diagrams of electrical circuits and components
  • Demonstrated ability to use various hand, power, and machine tools safely
  • Ability to thread and bend pipe
  • Basic understanding of the properties of equipment used in the papermaking process and converting
  • Hoisting and rigging equipment methods, and applications
  • Understanding of electrical principles, practices, methods, and procedures
  • Understanding of applicable laws, regulations, and codes (i.e., NFPA, OSHA, etc.)
  • Adept at using pliers, screwdrivers, wire strippers, utility knife, tape measure, multimeter, voltage tester, circuit finder.  Occasional use of drill/impact driver, hammer drill, and reciprocating saw.

     Qualifications- General:

  • High School Diploma or Equivalent
  • Massachusetts Journeyman Electrician or higher
  • 7+ years’ experience in an industrial setting
  • Demonstrated safety record and performance
  • Demonstrated troubleshooting techniques and abilities
  • Valid driver’s license with reliable transportation.
  • Must be willing and able to work any shift arrangement and overtime as needed
  • Must be able to respond to trouble calls promptly, both during and after scheduled working hours

Physical Demands:   

  • Physically lift to 50 pounds. 
  • Be able to push or pull heavy objects up to 250 pounds with the assistance of pallet jacks. 
  • Perform repetitive tasks. 
  • Routinely stand, sit, hear, walk, and talk. 
  • Reach, climb, bend, kneel, crouch, twist, and balance, sometimes in awkward or tight spaces. 
  • Have good close vision, depth perception, and the ability to focus. 
  • Meet Mativ certification requirements to operate Power Industrial Trucks. 
  • PPE Requirements:  Employees are required to wear Personal Protective Equipment, including safety shoes (steel toe or composite toe), safety glasses, protective gloves, when performing certain tasks, and hearing protection, when required. 
  • Other personal protective equipment as required for certain tasks.

PAY:  $28.36 - $38.25/hour, based on experience
