The Relief Shift Supervisor provides leadership support within the Neenah Converting Center and Mill. This position will be responsible for covering supervisor shifts during vacations, leaves, training, or unplanned absences. This role ensures safe, efficient production operations while maintaining high standards of quality, productivity, and employee engagement. The Relief Shift Supervisor is responsible for directing team members on the plant/mill floor, troubleshooting production issues, coordinating workflow, and ensuring compliance with company and regulatory standards. This position will work on continuous improvement projects, training and other operational items as assigned.
Key Responsibilities
Production & Operational Leadership
• Lead and oversee manufacturing operations during 12‑hour shifts, ensuring production schedules and output goals are met.
• Monitor production lines and equipment performance; escalate issues and coordinate corrective actions.
• Ensure efficient workforce deployment and proper staffing levels across work areas.
• Support continuous improvement initiatives to reduce waste, increase throughput, and enhance quality.
Employee Supervision & Team Support
• Provide direction, coaching, and feedback to production employees.
• Conduct shift start‑up meetings, communicate daily priorities, and align the team to production targets.
• Ensure employees follow standard operating procedures (SOPs), job instructions, and safety rules.
• Facilitate training for new hires or cross‑trained employees as needed.
Safety, Quality, and Compliance
• Promote and enforce a strong safety culture on the manufacturing floor.
• Conduct safety observations, address unsafe behaviors, and ensure compliance with OSHA and company safety programs.
• Verify quality checks are completed and documented; promptly address defects, nonconformances, or process deviations.
Communication & Reporting
• Complete production reports, downtime tracking, shift logs, and incident documentation.
• Communicate effectively with other shift supervisors, maintenance, engineering, and leadership.
• Ensure thorough shift handoffs with clear updates on equipment status, staffing, material flow, and production results.
Flexibility & Relief Coverage
• Provide supervisory coverage across multiple departments or production lines depending on business needs.
• Adapt to rotating or variable schedules which may include nights, weekends, and holidays.
• Maintain working knowledge of manufacturing processes throughout the facility to ensure seamless coverage.
Qualifications – Preferred
• High school diploma or equivalent.
• 2+ years of manufacturing experience.
• Prior leadership experience (lead, trainer, or supervisor-level).
• Strong communication and decision‑making skills.
• Ability to work 12‑hour shifts and adjust schedule to meet coverage needs.
• Experience in high‑volume or continuous‑operation manufacturing environments.
• Training or certification in lean manufacturing, Six Sigma, or process improvement.
• Computer skills including basic reporting, production tracking systems, or ERP software.
Work Environment
• Manufacturing plant/mill setting with exposure to machinery, noise, and industrial equipment.
• Requires standing, walking, and coordinating activities on the production floor for extended periods.
• Use of required PPE (e.g., safety glasses, steel-toe shoes, hearing protection).
