Position Title: Sr. Research Scientist
Location: Neenah, WI
Job Description:
We are actively pursuing a Sr. Scientist with a strong technical background to join our Research and Development Team in Neenah, Wisconsin. This position reports to the Sr R&D Manager for the Paper and Packaging Division of our Sustainable and Adhesives Solutions Business Unit. The role will be responsible for new product development, formulation development and modification, experimental production trials, specification development, supplier relationships, production troubleshooting, and customer support activities. This role is focused on Neenah branded products, with the potential to support other Mativ brand areas as needed or desired.
responsibilities:
- Develop an in-depth understanding of all manufacturing equipment and processes to effectively manage new product development, cost reduction opportunities, and process optimization
- Ensure R&D activities comply with corporate, state, and federal laws and regulations, including employee and product safety requirements
- Conduct laboratory and machine trials to support new product development projects
- Develop and execute trial plans, collaborating with cross-functional teams, such as Operations and Technical
- Work with cross-functional teams internal and external to the organization, including customers
- Determine and test Critical to Quality specifications for products and processes
- Create and control intellectual property
- Serve as an expert in product design
- Execute projects within the framework of the established Stage-Gate process
- Generate technical reports with relevant data, conclusions, and recommendations
- Travel up to 10 %, excluding local travel to outside service providers, customers, or internal mill locations
qualifications:
Required
- A bachelor’s degree in polymer science, paper science, or a related technical field of study
- 7+ years of experience required in paper or coating operations and/or product development
- Must have solid Microsoft Office skills, particularly in Excel and Word
- Strong organizational, problem-solving, and decision-making skills
- Capability to manage multiple tasks or projects at once within cross-functional teams
- A demonstrated ability to effectively communicate internally and also with customers and suppliers
- Experience of leading and coaching others, especially junior team members
Preferred
- A master’s degree in polymer science, paper science, or a related technical field of study
- Lean Six Sigma Green or Black Belt
- Saturation application or formulation experience
- Previous management experience
