Multi-Skilled Engineer

Overview

Working within an engineering team and closely supporting the Maintenance Supervisor, you will support a mix of engineering machinery production lines involving mixing, converting and coating, as well as ancillary areas, with a mix of both old and new equipment. The role is based at our Bolton site and the position reports into the Maintenance Supervisor who reports directly into the Site Engineering Manager. The principal responsibility is to provide expertise in Mechanical/electrical systems across a broad range of hydraulic, pneumatic, systems and to complete minor projects in order to improve machine reliability, flexibility and uptime (OEE).

Hours - Limited rotating shift pattern (Averaging a 40-hour week Monday to Friday) and provide ongoing support as part of a 4 man engineering team.

Location - Bolton

Responsibilities:

  • Maintain, repair and improve production machinery to minimise downtime.
  • Carry out preventative maintenance and support continuous improvement.
  • Diagnose and resolve mechanical/electrical faults, ensuring long-term fixes.
  • Support the introduction and commissioning of new equipment.
  • Ensure compliance with health, safety and environmental standards.
  • Communicate effectively with colleagues to keep operations running smoothly.

What are we looking for:

  • Completed formal apprenticeship and strong mechanical maintenance experience, ideally  including fitting, welding, turning, and milling.
  • Background in production or factory environments.
  • Sound understanding of health & safety, risk assessment, and ISO 9001/14001 standards.
  • Able to read technical diagrams, prepare method statements, and communicate technical information.
  • Highly organised, methodical, and persistent with a structured approach to problem-solving.
  • Flexible, efficient, and resilient—able to adapt to changing needs and work well under pressure.
  • Positive, influential team player with ownership of tasks and solutions.
  • (Desirable) Experience with mixing, coating, conversion machinery, SAP PM software, and knowledge of maintenance roadmaps.
