Manufacturing Helper

DESCRIPTION:  The Manufacturing Helper in Pittsfield, MA is responsible for performing all tasks associated with supporting manufacturing operations on the paper machine and in finishing/converting. Responsibilities include transporting and staging rolls, threading of machines and general housekeeping. The Helper provides general support for and takes direction from the Machine Tender and/or Paper Machine Rewinder Operator or the Calender Operator for the responsible and safe operation of the paper machine or calenders.

SCHEDULE:  Rotating, includes weekends.  1st Shift 6 am - 2 pm, 2nd Shift 2 -10 pm, and 3rd Shift 10 pm - 6 am.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Conduct self and job tasks in a safe manner following proper work procedures
  • Perform and document PT/FT inspections
  • Monitor and stock operating supplies as needed or directed; cores, pallets, wrap, etc.
  • Move rolls from the Machine, Calender, and Rewinder areas
  • Collect scrap and waste from the process to bale
  • Assist the Rewinder crew in preparing production materials
  • General housekeeping.  Keep the work area and machinery clean, neat, organized, and free of any safety hazards
  • Performs other duties as reasonably assigned, in alignment with the role’s scope and organizational goals.

  • Ability to fully understand the quality requirements of technical material products and his/her role in ensuring quality 

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Trade school, High School Diploma or Equivalent 

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:   

  • Physically lift to 50 pounds. 
  • Be able to push or pull heavy objects up to 250 pounds with the assistance of pallet jacks. 
  • Perform repetitive tasks. 
  • Routinely stand, sit, hear, walk, and talk. 
  • Reach, climb, bend, kneel, crouch, twist, and balance, sometimes in awkward or tight spaces. 
  • Have good close vision, depth perception, and the ability to focus. 
  • Meet Mativ certification requirements to operate Power Industrial Trucks. 
  • PPE Requirements:  Employees are required to wear Personal Protective Equipment, including safety shoes (steel toe or composite toe), safety glasses, protective gloves, when performing certain tasks, and hearing protection, when required. 
  • Other personal protective equipment as required for certain tasks.
