The Maintenance Manager is responsible for directing all maintenance operations within a plastics manufacturing facility to ensure the safe, reliable, and efficient operation of production equipment and facility systems. This role leads a team of maintenance technicians, develops preventive and predictive maintenance programs, minimizes equipment downtime, and supports continuous improvement efforts. The Maintenance Manager works closely with Production, Engineering, Quality, and Safety to maximize productivity while maintaining compliance with company policies and regulatory requirements.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Lead, coach, and develop maintenance technicians to promote a culture of safety, accountability, and continuous improvement.
Plan, schedule, and oversee preventive, predictive, and corrective maintenance for all manufacturing equipment and facility systems.
Ensure maximum uptime of extrusion lines, converting equipment, slitters, winders, mixers, material handling systems, compressors, chillers, cooling towers, and ancillary equipment.
Troubleshoot mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and PLC-controlled equipment.
Develop and manage preventive maintenance schedules using a Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS).
Analyze equipment failures and implement corrective actions to eliminate recurring issues.
Coordinate equipment installations, modifications, and capital improvement projects.
Manage relationships with outside contractors, equipment manufacturers, and service providers.
Maintain appropriate inventory levels of spare parts and maintenance supplies while controlling costs.
Prepare and manage the annual maintenance budget and capital expenditures.
Ensure compliance with OSHA regulations, environmental standards, electrical safety requirements, and Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) procedures.
Support continuous improvement initiatives using Lean Manufacturing, 5S, and root cause analysis.
Work closely with Production and Quality teams to minimize downtime and improve equipment reliability.
Maintain accurate maintenance records, equipment histories, and regulatory documentation.
Participate in plant emergency response and provide on-call support as required.
Builds maintenance budget and controls monthly expense.
Qualifications
Education
Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Industrial Maintenance, or a related field preferred.
Equivalent maintenance leadership experience will be considered.
Experience
Minimum 5 years of industrial maintenance experience in a manufacturing environment.
At least 3 years of maintenance supervisory or management experience.
Experience with plastics manufacturing processes, including extrusion, converting, laminating, slitting, and winding preferred.
Experience with PLCs, VFDs, motor controls, robotics, conveyors, pumps, compressors, chillers, and hydraulic systems.
Experience using CMMS software.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Strong leadership, coaching, and team-building skills.
Advanced troubleshooting and root cause analysis abilities.
Working knowledge of PLCs, automation, electrical controls, hydraulics, pneumatics, and industrial mechanical systems.
Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics, blueprints, and technical manuals.
Knowledge of OSHA regulations, LOTO procedures, and machine guarding requirements.
Strong project management and organizational skills.
Budget management and cost control experience.
Effective communication and collaboration skills.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office and CMMS software.
Physical Requirements
Ability to stand and walk throughout a manufacturing facility for extended periods.
Ability to lift up to 50 pounds occasionally.
Ability to climb ladders, work at heights, bend, kneel, and reach.
Ability to work in environments with heat, noise, moving machinery, and airborne particulates.
Must wear required personal protective equipment (PPE).
Work Environment
This position works in a fast-paced plastics manufacturing facility operating 24/7. Exposure to production machinery, noise, heat, dust, and industrial chemicals is expected. The Maintenance Manager may be required to work flexible hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays, to support production and respond to emergency maintenance needs.
