Logistics Planner

Description: This position works within a team to coordinate and process outbound shipments.  The Logistics Planners facilitate communication between Customer Service, carriers, warehouses and mills.  This position is responsible for processing drop shipments and coordinating inter-Mill/Inbound shipments. Priority focus on the safety and value of employees, while driving continual improvement in customer quality, asset efficiency, and cost management. 

 

Responsibilities:

 

Coordinate and process outbound shipments

Pool/Truckloads (TL)

Verify customers have enough tonnage for stop-offs and arrange pool stops in most efficient-low cost order. 

Less than Truckload (LTL) / Air Freight (AF)

Prepare shipment labels and any additional paperwork as necessary

Customer Pickup (CPU)

Obtain all information that is required for specific customer to arrange pickup

Prepare and supply any additional paperwork as necessary

Communicate with customers 3PLs as needed

Route shipments through required customer portals as necessary

Drop Shipments

Receive information from outside converter to manually process shipments in Oracle

Load Tenders

Pool and truckload (TL) are sent timely so they can schedule delivery appointments

Less than truckload (LTL) freight estimates are sent two times daily to each carrier

Customer Pickup (CPU) are arranged by customer cut-off to ensure pickup

Freight Allocation

Run reports to verify that freight charges were uploaded for each prepaid outbound shipment and manually enter those that don’t have it

Run reports to verify what freight charges a customer should receive for applicable shipment and apply them

Run reports to catch freight allocation errors

Run reports to verify shipments that are closed, have been invoiced

Facilitate communication between Customer Service and carriers

Rate Quotes

Paper Returns

 

Communicate requirements and provide necessary documentation to ensure timely and efficient processing of orders through the warehouse

Prepare any/all extra paperwork required for any shipment

Create Shipment Ready to Release (SRR); so warehouse can prepare for shipping

Clear shipment ready to release (SRR’s) of any errors that would prevent them from processing

Assist warehouse in reconciling issues that arise from daily processing of orders

 

Coordinate Inter-Mill/Inbound shipments

Arrange trucks for shipments that transfer between mills

Arrange trucks for stock replenishment to outside warehouses

Assist in arranging trucks for outside converters when necessary

Assist in arranging inbound trucks when necessary

 

Coordinate and communicate other various transportation department activities based on needs

Prepare e-commerce orders for shipment

Enter pool trip ID’s a week in advance

Proactively assign orders on future trips

Document carrier delays in Oracle

Maintain SOP book

 

Preferred Qualifications: 

 

High School or GED required/ Associates or Bachelors degree preferred
Proficiency in Microsoft Excel to view, use, modify, and analyze reports

Proficiency using logistics software

Self-motivated with a high level of personal drive
Willingness to learn and grow.
Strong organizational skills and time management skills
