Lab Technician

Reporting to the Quality Manager, the Lab Technician is responsible for inspection and testing of materials or products per specified work instructions and test plans.  Test results are recorded and analyzed for out of specification conditions.  Appropriate reaction plan must be followed for suspect/out of specification materials and products.  The Lab Technician completes calibrations and verifications of test equipment or other equipment as identified.  This position involves multi-tasking between product testing, data entry, customer certificate of analysis completion, control of non-conforming materials, supporting operations needs for visual inspections or release of products.  The lab environment must be kept clean and orderly. 

 

Specific Responsibilities:

 

Quality Control:

  • Maintain lab equipment, facilities and environment in a safe and clean condition.
  • Perform calibration and setup of lab test equipment. Clean and prepare test plates and other equipment in use.
  • Collect, identify, prepare and test tape samples per procedures and sampling plans.
  • Record and maintain test results.
  • Review test data to detect out-of-specification or suspect material and advise production personnel, team leaders, and manager when escalation is deemed necessary
  • Identify non-conforming materials and complete process.
  • Identify, prepare, and test incoming material samples as required.
  • Identify and inspect finished products for customer specific requirements or for customer approvals.
  • Prepare test reports and Certificates of Analysis and send to Customers.
  • Collect, analyze, and summarize process and/or product measurements and trends.
  • Perform process and product audits as required to support automotive quality system standards.
  • Support quality team needs as necessary to support other team members.

 

General:

  • Work 12 hour rotating continental shift pattern with flexibility to cover vacation shifts of other lab personnel.
  • Works independently with minimum supervision to prioritize required tasks during specified shift.
  • Interact with other departments as necessary (Production, Shipping/Warehouse, R&D, Engineering).
  • Follow safety rules and keep work area clean and orderly.

 

Qualifications:

  • The Lab Technician position requires strong communication and teamwork skills.
  • Comfortable working in a lab environment as well as a manufacturing environment exposed to noise, dust, and temperatures variations.  Must be willing to always use required PPE during working hours.
  • Job experience in a manufacturing environment is considered an asset.  
  • Lab or quality department experience is considered an asset.
  • Experience with shift work would be considered an asset.
  • The individual should have good computer skills as it relates to word processing, databases, and the use of spreadsheets. Experience working with SAP would be considered an asset.
