Description:

Our Environmental Health & Safety Coordinator supports Mativ’s Sustainable & Adhesive Solutions Function.  The EH&S Coordinator is responsible for directing and leading the site in all areas relating to the safety of our employees while ensuring that all state and federal regulations regarding health, safety, and the environment are met. Provide support to the engineering department when required. The location of the role is Athens, GA and reports to the Plant Operations Manager.

responsibilities:

  • Ensure that a prioritized EH&S plan for the Plant is in place and that the execution of this plan is on time and complete.
  • Ensure that all Company EH&S Policies are updated, communicated, understood and adhered to
  • Generate and carry out risk assessments
  • Chair the Health and Safety committee, ensuring that employee-identified safety opportunities are resolved on a priority basis
  • Coordinate, and when appropriate, conduct safety training for employees including New Employee Orientation, Internal Safety Inspections and other supplemental EH&S training programs in support of the operation
  • Assume complete ownership for all safety training, ensuring that it is completed on time
  • Manage workers’ compensation cases
  • Ensure that contractor personnel working on the property are in compliance with Mativ policies and safety requirements.
  • Maintain and update as needed all OSHA required forms, programs and work instructions for safe work practices and equipment and utilize them in day-to-day training.
  • Lead coordination of inspections by regulatory agencies, ensure deficiencies are minimized and corrected and present findings and corrections to the organization.
  • Maintain all logs and documentation associated with permits and regulatory requirements.
  • Promote the highest standard of housekeeping, organization and orderliness throughout the entire operation.
  • Serve as Emergency Coordinator and/or Alternate.  This includes coordinating an emergency response caused by a hazardous waste spill, environmental incident or fire.
  • Data entry and maintenance of all Corporate and Site databases including monthly reports and graphs
  • Participant of the corporate EH&S team
  • Inspection of first aid and hearing protection cabinets
  • Orders and restocks safety supplies
  • Schedules and collects data from Internal Safety Inspections
  • Point of contact for hourly workforce with regards to EH&S concerns and reports unsafe conditions or behaviors to Plant Leader(s)
  • Audits Monthly Safety Training records to ensure completion
  • Speaks as the Safety professional to share EH&S news with other teams in group meetings
  • Audits safe work procedures and reports compliance with established guidelines
  • Leads or participates in the investigation of Recordable Injury, First Aid and Near Miss incidents and makes recommendations for improvements, if applicable
  • Serves as Confined Space Attendant or Fire Watch as needed
  • Approver for New, Unsafe or Relocated Inspection release procedure
  • Coordinates with Maintenance Supervisor for prioritization of safety-related Maintenance and facilities projects to be reported to Plant Leadership
  • Audits cleanliness of facility
  • Ensures visitors and contractors understand Mativ EH&S policies
  • Supports safe work practices of new or altered equipment by participating as a member of the commissioning team

qualifications:

Required

  • 5 Years experience as EHS leader at an Industrial environment.
  • Able to meet deadlines
  • Experience working in a manufacturing environment
  • Dealing with conflict and resolution
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills including presentation skills
  • Strong organizational and interpersonal skills
  • Understanding and experience using Microsoft Office Suite, especially Excel
  • Project Management and prioritization abilities
  • Ability to operate calmly during a crisis
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in manufacturing environment.
  • Accreditation is related to state and federal safety and environment regulations.
  • Training in OSHA, Emergency response, etc.

Preferred

  • Good computer skills as it relates to word processing, databases, and the use of spreadsheets
  • Additional EPA/OSHA related experience
