This is a remote-working position, the ideal candidate will live within an easy driving distance of Philadelphia, Newark (NJ), Atlanta, or Chicago (O’Hare) airports.
The Director of Capital Engineering is accountable for the engineering and delivery of capital investment projects at up to 15 Mativ sites, predominantly located in North America. Project types include maintenance replacements, automation and process improvements, and new product manufacturing lines. The Director interfaces with site engineering, safety, and plant leaders to understand problems/opportunities, and coaches/guides the project development, justification, execution, and post-completion evaluation business processes.
Position Responsibilities:

Facilitate the prioritization of capital spending through the global budgeting process, bringing a deep understanding of the sites and needs on the ground.

Coach engineers in developing robust project plans that align with meaningful project objectives, paying attention to large (> $2M) and complex (high levels of on-site integration) projects.

Coach in the preparation of proposal documents and in the project alignment process.

Promote a project metrics mindset, specifically identifying objective measures for project success in the project development phase.

Accountable for the investment spending versus the plan.

Make resource prioritization calls as necessary; communicate schedule and timing tradeoffs.

Develop and deploy project management best practices, mentor the project management process.

Drive the identification and validation of lower-cost solutions.
-
Identify and cultivate third-party contract resources as scalable capacity.
-
Curate a strong relationship with Mativ’s insurance providers through joint site visits and regular communications; Drive the selection and completion of Loss Control initiatives.

Mentor in technical and commercial best practices, identifying and validating equipment suppliers.

Up to 40% domestic and international travel

Work Experience:

A BS in Engineering is required. MS preferred.
-
10 years of experience as an engineer and project manager specifying, preparing for, procuring, installing, and commissioning machinery on behalf of a facility (receiving) or an OEM (delivery). Projects must have been at least $1M in size.

Deep experience in at least one industrial goods manufacturing process is required. e.g. polymer extrusion (preferred), coating, paper-making, or automated assembly systems.

Skilled in extracting and articulating functional requirements and performance metrics

Financial acumen applied to the evaluation of the financial benefits of investments.

Skilled in working in a matrix management environment.

Familiar with ANSI B11 safety standards, civil and structural design stamping requirements, electrical code requirements, OEE calculation, mechanical and electrical design principles, and system modeling.
