Shipping II

Position Summary

Shipper II is responsible for coordinating and completing the accurate and timely shipment of finished goods, raw materials, and other company products. This position involves shipping, receiving, inventory, documentation, and material-handling activities while ensuring all shipments meet company and customer requirements. The Shipper II works with production, warehouse, customer service, purchasing, and transportation personnel to maintain an efficient flow of materials and finished goods.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Pick material from locations and cut, coil or package as needed from order.
  • Prepare finished goods and materials for shipment according to customer, carrier, and company requirements.
  • Verify product quantities, part numbers, lot numbers, weights, labels, and shipping information before loading.
  • Operate forklifts, pallet jacks, scales, and other material-handling equipment safely.
  • Load and unload trucks while ensuring materials are properly secured and protected from damage.
  • Prepare bills of lading, packing lists, shipping labels, freight documentation, and other required paperwork.
  • Enter and maintain shipping transactions in the company’s ERP or warehouse management system.
  • Verify that shipments are properly staged and match the corresponding sales order, packing list, and shipping documents.
  • Coordinate with carriers regarding pickup times, shipping requirements, and delivery issues.
  • Inspect incoming and outgoing shipments for visible damage and report discrepancies.
  • Maintain accurate inventory counts and assist with cycle counts when needed.
  • Ensure finished goods are stored in the correct locations and properly identified.
  • Assist with resolving inventory, shipping, and documentation discrepancies.
  • Follow company procedures for handling damaged, rejected, or nonconforming material.
  • Maintain an organized, clean, and safe shipping and warehouse area.
  • Follow all company safety policies, OSHA requirements, and material-handling procedures.
  • Assist with training Shipper I employees and provide guidance on proper shipping procedures.
  • Help prioritize daily shipping activities based on production schedules and customer requirements.
  • Communicate shipment delays, shortages, damages, or other issues to the appropriate supervisor or department.
  • May assist with scheduling shipments and coordinating transportation as needed.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by management.

Required Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED preferred.
  • Previous warehouse, shipping, receiving, or manufacturing experience required.
  • Previous experience operating a forklift required or preferred.
  • Ability to accurately read and interpret shipping documents, labels, purchase orders, and work instructions.
  • Basic computer skills and ability to learn ERP/WMS systems.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to maintain accurate records.
  • Ability to work independently and prioritize multiple tasks.
  • Good communication and organizational skills.
  • Ability to work effectively with production, warehouse, customer service, purchasing, and management teams.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to stand and walk for extended periods.
  • Ability to regularly lift, push, pull, and move materials weighing up to 70 pounds.
  • Ability to climb, bend, stoop, reach, and work around warehouse and manufacturing equipment.
  • Ability to safely operate material-handling equipment.
  • Ability to work in a manufacturing/warehouse environment, including exposure to varying temperatures, noise, dust, and moving equipment.

Shipper II Expectations

Shipper II is expected to demonstrate a higher level of knowledge and responsibility than Shipper I. The employee should be capable of working with minimal supervision, identifying and correcting shipping discrepancies, assisting with inventory accuracy, supporting daily shipping priorities, and helping train less-experienced employees.

  • Report unsafe conditions, damaged equipment, injuries, and material-handling concerns immediately.
  • Maintain current forklift certification, when required.
