HSE Technician/Specialist (Release Liners / ITASA – Andoain Site)

Roles, Responsibilities, and Objectives

ROLE  

  • Ensures the execution of HSE activities by providing technical expertise to support the decisions of the Plant Director and the HSE Manager in the areas of Health, Safety, and Environment. Collaborates with key company stakeholders to promote the “Safety First” culture and respect for the environment, ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements and deadlines, as well as the achievement of HSE objectives defined at the corporate level.

Relationships

  • Position reports directly to EHS Manager.
  • Interacts with all functions within ITASA, with a special dedication to direct labor.
  • External relationships include customers and suppliers or corporate H&S, as required.

Responsibilities

  • Lead, support, and monitor the implementation of the HSE strategy.
  • Ensure that the workplace is monitored and is fully in compliance with all applicable OSHA/EU Equivalent standards, rules and regulations in order to maintain safety in manufacturing facilities.
  • Ensure that Safety Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) are maintained, and communicated to employees.
  • Together with EHS Manager, ensure the results of safety inspections are documented; monitoring the investigation of accidents and injuries; ensuring that corrective actions are taken; and providing recommendations for ways to prevent similar accidents.
  • To highlight areas where training/certification is required to meet the standards imposed by Legislation, Approved Codes of Practice, or H.S.E. guidance.
  • Carry out or participate in investigations into all accidents and near-miss incidents and to record the findings on the relevant forms. Ensure that all accident reports are recorded in a timely, complete, and accurate manner.
  • To bring company related health and safety matters to the attention of the management at regular intervals.
  • Ensure that an adequate program of training for health and safety is established and that the safety culture is encouraged amongst employees.
  • Together with HSE Manager, Keep up to date with changes in current legislation and to bring to the attention of the Management, any relevant new legislation.
  • Ensure that all “assessments” as required by legislation are conducted and reviewed at relevant intervals and to maintain records of the same.
  • Conduct health and safety inspections and prepare reports of all the company’s operations.
  • Real State Security: Fire protection, systems etc.: Ensure and monitor the effective functioning of the company fire protection system, including organizing periodic inspection and maintenance activities carried out by the internal emergency team and specialized external companies

  • Leading Indicators (Risk detection & correction)
  • Lagging indicators (TRIR)
  • Safety Perception & Safety Culture Improvement for all employees
  • Achievement of HSE scorecard targets
  • Disposal/recovery of waste generated by company activities

Knowledge and Skills

  • EHS Diploma: Certificate in Occupational Risk Prevention, or Master's Degree in Occupational Risk Prevention/  Senior Technician in Occupational Risk Prevention
  • Mechanical or Electrical Technician (either FP of BS Engineering) will be a plus.
  • Good and up-to-date knowledge of HSE regulations, principles, and management systems   
  • Hands-on experience implementing
  • English advanced level.
  • Good organization skills
  • Good computer skills
  • Ability to train associates effectively, facilitate groups, and lead multi-functional resources in a fact based, results-oriented environment required.
  • Ability to work under pressure and manage priorities within assigned responsibilities

Essential experience

  • Minimum 3 years in similar role in companies with established environmental and Health & Safety management systems, preferably certified and multi-national companies.
